Third-party car insurance cover is one of
the most essential parts of personal car
insurance in South Africa – and anywhere in
the world!
With a Third-party Only cover plan
you may only claim for the damages you cause
to another party and their property. As
such, your own car is not insured against
damages during a car accident.
Vehicle – Third-party, Fire and Theft
With Third-party, Fire and Theft car
insurance cover you can claim for certain
specified damages to your vehicle, or if it
gets stolen. As the name indicates, your car
will be insured for third party damages
(which you cause to someone else’s vehicle
or property), fire damage and loss through
theft. Included in the list of threats for
which you will have car insurance cover is
explosion damage, lightning, attempted theft
and theft.
This type of car insurance cover also covers
towing to and storage at the nearest
authorized repair centre, with vehicle
windscreen and canopy insurance being
optional cover areas. As long as your claim
is valid and you opted to take out insurance
cover for this (optional), you will also get
a benefit for car rental while your own car
is being repaired.
The levels of cover for each of these
categories will obviously vary from one
South African car insurance company to the
next.
Contacting a number of respected South
African Car insurance companies such as Dial
Direct, First for Women and Auto and General
Insurance for an online car insurance quote
will give you a fair indication as to what
third-party, as well as third-party, fire
and theft insurance policies are available
in South Africa.
But whether you opt for optional insurance
cover or not, third-party car insurance
cover is vital for protecting yourself
financially. Be aware of the fact that this,
however, doesn’t cover your own vehicle’s
damages.
As such, third-party insurance for cars is
not nearly sufficient – especially for the
new car owner. |
