Do I need workers compensation
insurance?
|
|
|
|
As a small
business owner and employer, you
have a legal responsibility
towards your employees to make
the working environment as safe
one. Unfortunately, however,
accidents do happen even in safe
working environments.
To protect your small or
medium-sized business against
possible lawsuits resulting from
workplace accidents or injures,
and to provide your staff
members with medical care and/or
lost income, you must sign up
for workers compensation
insurance. In most instances,
this may also cover work-related
illnesses.
Workers compensation insurance
provides payments to injured
staff members, regardless of who
was at fault in the accident,
for the loss of time and income
while they recuperate. It also
provides benefits to surviving
spouses and dependents if an
employee were to die in a
work-related accident.
As such, workers compensation
insurance is vital if you are a
permanent South African
employer. Finding out as much as
possible about small business
liability insurance will help
you protect your own business
interests, while also looking
after your employees.
